The University of Toledo football team is on the hunt for a MAC title, and the IC Sports staff is here to bring you all this year’s action as it happens. This is Weekly Launch, a feature counting down the top UT stories heading into each new week of the season.

Nothing guaranteed for Woodside

Sophomore Logan Woodside was named the MAC West co-offensive player of the week after completing 27-of-40 passing for 322 yards and three touchdowns during Toledo’s game against Cincinnati last weekend.

But even that won’t keep redshirt freshman Michael Julian from continuing to apply pressure in UT’s quarterback battle. The opportunities for playing time, according to head coach Matt Campbell, are up to Julian.

“That will depend on how Michael will practice and continue to practice,” he said. “He’s practiced very well in the spring leading up to the season but a lot is going to predicate to what we want to do in the offense.”

Going forward this season, look for Julian to make appearances during garbage time, or if Woodside finds himself in rough water.

Injury roundup

Against Cincinnati, starting running back Kareem Hunt didn’t play in the second half due to an undisclosed injury that occurred in the first half. When asked if the sophomore would play this Saturday, however, Campbell made it clear that Hunt will be ready to go.

The same cannot be said for defensive tackle Marquise Moore, who will miss the remainder of the season with a foot injury.

“Trust me that kid would do anything in his power to play,” Campbell said. “But it’s not the right thing to do.”

A player whose status for Saturday’s game remains undecided is defensive back Jordan Martin, whose status, according to Campbell, will be determined later in the week.

Central Michigan game to kick off at 7 p.m. on ESPN3

Toledo will continue to show up on the ESPN family of networks.

The Rockets announced Monday that the home game against Central Michigan has been set for 7 p.m. on Saturday, September 27. The game will be live streamed on ESPN3.

The Rockets were able to handle their MAC West opponents last season, convincingly defeating the Chippewas 38-17 in Mt. Pleasant. Toledo will hope to repeat that past success against CMU in this season’s matchup.
