The Rockets women’s soccer team played another doubleheader this weekend. They beat Cleveland State on Friday and Oakland on Sunday. Both games were won by a score of 1-0.

FRIDAY

Against Cleveland State, senior Kiersten Johnson continued her hot start to the season, scoring her third goal of the fall to push the Rockets to their second straight win.

Freshman Alex Troy hit senior tri-captain Brooke Maletic in middle of the goal box, who then found Johnson deep in scoring position, breaking the scoreless tie in the 51st minute.

UT controlled the ball and the clock from that point on to snag their third win of the season.

Junior Isa Echeverri led the offense with a game-high six shots. Sophomore goalie Katie Wilson recorded five saves in her second straight shootout.

SUNDAY

The Rockets were more aggressive on offense against Oakland, tallying seven shots on goal while holding their opponent to two goals.

During the game, freshman Jordyn Greer recorded her first collegiate goal, while the team’s defense held firm throughout the match.

Freshman Sheridan Bufe found Greer with a long pass over the defense for her first career goal in the at the 31-minute mark.

Toledo was rock solid on defense, not allowing a single shot on their goal in the first 45 minutes of play. UT shot seven times in the half, recording the one goal.

Oakland did get two shots on UT’s goal but could not break through as Wilson recorded her third straight clean sheet in the victory. This marks three straight wins for the midnight blue and gold, making them 4-3 for the season.

The Rockets return to action on Sunday, Sept. 18 when Indiana State visits the Glass City. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
