The University of Toledo men’s basketball team arrived at McGuirk Arena Tuesday night knowing they held the keys to their own destiny.

After falling to Central Michigan, UT will need a little help to get where they want to go.

The Chippewas (22-6, 12-5 MAC) earned at least a share of the Mid-American Conference regular-season title and West Division title by drubbing the Rockets 85-77. UT saw their chance at victory disappear in the second half after a barrage of scoring by a trio of CMU juniors.

Forward John Simons led that attack, scoring a season-high 28 points. Rockets senior guard Juice Brown led his squad with 20 points in the contest.

Toledo (19-11, 11-6 MAC) isn’t dead in the water yet. The four byes in next week’s MAC Tournament are still up for grabs, but the Rockets will have to defeat Eastern Michigan this Friday, March 6, to stay in the running for one of those slots.

UT enters their regular season finale against the Eagles in a four-way tie for second place in the MAC.
