The University of Toledo football team is on the hunt for a MAC title, and the IC Sports staff is here to bring you all this year’s action as it happens. This is Weekly Launch, a feature counting down the top UT stories heading into each new week of the season.

Injury Update

The Rockets have managed to keep a potent ground game afloat, even without starting sophomore running back Kareem Hunt, who has missed the last three games – and the second half of the last two games he has played in – with an ankle injury.

Hunt was averaging 8.9 yards per carry before being sidelined.

“We got a chance to give guys a break (during the bye week) who were a little beat up,” said UT head coach Matt Campbell during Monday’s media session. “It gave them more time to get back to ready for the upcoming games.”

Campbell hinted that we might be seeing Hunt again soon, as he was able to practice on Sunday for the first time in three weeks. On the other side of the ball, sophomore cornerback Jordan Martin’s status is still uncertain, but the Rockets would love to have him back for the upcoming game against UMass.

“Injuries happen, situations happen, that is what makes up the fun of college football,” Campbell said. “It’s your ability as a football team and player to stay the course. It’s a marathon and not a sprint and you have to demand of yourself to get better every week.”

Homecoming

Saturday’s 2 p.m. faceoff with UMass marks the 83rd homecoming game for the Rockets.

UT holds a 58-25 record in homecoming games, and the Rockets will have a chance to improve to 4-0 in the Mid-American Conference with a victory over the Minutemen.
