The man accused of burning University of Toledo cross-country runner appeared in court today after he paid 10 percent of bond and was released from jail.

Christopher Housel, 21, of Highland, Mich., is charged with aggravated arson. During the brief hearing, Judge William M. Connelly continued bond at $50,000, according to the online journal details. A preliminary hearing also was set; they will appear in court again Mar. 30 at 9 a.m.

Allegedly, Housel poured alcohol onto a candle during a Jan. 15 house party, which ignited and spread onto cross-country runner Janelle Noe. Severe burns covered approximately 50 percent of her body, and she was taken to Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center.
